About UNSC 1267 Committee:
- The UNSC 1267 Committee, also known as the Al-Qaida and ISIL Sanctions Committee, was established in 1999 through Resolution 1267.
- It plays a pivotal role in combating terrorism by imposing sanctions on individuals, groups, and entities associated with Al-Qaida, ISIL, and related organizations. These sanctions include measures like asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes to disrupt terrorist operations globally.
- The committee functions as a subsidiary organ of the United Nations Security Council, with decisions requiring consensus among its 15 members. India has consistently advocated for the inclusion of Pakistan-based terror groups and individuals in the 1267 sanctions list, viewing it as a critical step toward holding sponsors of terrorism accountable.
