The UP Judiciary Exam follows a three-stage selection process:

It comprises two papers: Paper I (General Knowledge – 150 marks) and Paper II (Law – 300 marks). Each paper has a duration of 2 hours and consists of Multiple Choice Questions. Clearing the prelims is essential to advance to the mains stage, which is descriptive in nature and holds significant weight in the selection process.

The mains exam is a crucial stage as it determines the candidates’ overall merit for selection. The PCS J mains exam consists of 6 papers, each carrying a maximum of 1000 marks. Previously, before 2022, there used to be 5 papers, including a single language paper. All the papers in the mains exam are of descriptive nature, requiring candidates to provide written answers. Candidates have the option to answer the General Knowledge and Law papers in either Hindi or English.
