Recently, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) celebrated successful flight tests of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile, marking a significant advancement in India’s defence capabilities.

  • VSHORADS stands out as a fourth-generation Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) engineered to effectively combat low-altitude aerial threats within short distances. These systems represent a class of short-range, lightweight, and portable surface-to-air missiles deployable by individuals or small groups.

Development and Collaboration:

  • Indigenous innovation drives the development of VSHORADS, with the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad taking the lead. Collaboration with various DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners further enhances the system’s capabilities and reliability.
