 About PM Vishwakarma Scheme: 

The PM Vishwakarma Scheme, officially known as Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana, is a Central Sector Scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti. 

• It aims to provide end-to-end holistic support to traditional artisans and craftspeople (referred to as Vishwakarmas) who work with their hands and tools in the unorganized sector.
• The scheme is designed to preserve and promote India’s rich cultural heritage of craftsmanship while integrating these artisans into the formal economy through skill enhancement, financial assistance, and market linkages. 
• The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) serves as the nodal ministry, with implementation support from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Department of Financial Services (DFS).

Objectives

The primary goals of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme include:

• Recognition: To formally acknowledge artisans as Vishwakarmas, making them eligible for scheme benefits and integrating them into the formal MSME ecosystem via the Udyam Assist Platform.
• Skill Enhancement: To upgrade traditional skills with modern tools and techniques, fostering innovation while preserving heritage crafts.
• Economic Empowerment: To provide affordable credit, toolkit incentives, and market access to improve livelihoods and boost exports.
• Digital Inclusion: To encourage digital transactions and provide platforms for branding and e-commerce linkages.

Sustainability: To revive traditional art forms by connecting artisans to global value chains and anchor industry partners.
