Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana: Bihar Government
Why in News
The Bihar Cabinet approved the launch of the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, aimed at promoting women’s entrepreneurship and self-employment in the State.

About the Scheme:
- One woman from every family in Bihar will receive Rs 10,000 as the first instalment to start a business of her choice.
- After six months of performance evaluation, an additional grant of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to successful women entrepreneurs.
- The first instalment disbursal will begin from September, directly transferred to women’s bank accounts.
- The grant is non-refundable (not a loan).
Objectives:
- Strengthen women’s economic empowerment and self-reliance.
- Generate employment opportunities within Bihar, reducing migration for jobs.
- Support women who want to become entrepreneurs on their own initiative.
Support Measures:
- Development of haat bazaars in villages and towns to boost sales of women-made products.
Background – Bihar’s Women Empowerment Initiatives:
- From 2006–07 onward, 50% of the seats in local bodies, both rural and urban, have been set aside for women.
- Liquor prohibition in 2016, introduced in response to women’s demand, cited as improving women’s welfare.
Educational empowerment schemes:
- Free school uniforms, bicycles, and scholarships for girls (at Class 10, 12, and graduation levels).
