Donald Trump “orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt” the 2016 presidential election when he conspired to prevent damaging stories about his personal life from becoming public, a prosecutor told jurors  at the start of the former president’s historic hush money trial.

What is Hush money?

• It refers to a sum of money paid to someone to keep them from revealing certain information or to silence them about a particular matter.
• It’s often used in situations where someone has damaging or confidential information about another party, and that party wants to prevent the information from becoming public knowledge.
