Why in News ? the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor,  has made a major diplomatic announcement: India will be officially invited to join “Pax Silica” as a full member next month.

Key Points of the Announcement:

• Full Membership: India was not part of the initial launch in late 2025. It will now join as a full member in February 2026.
• The “Silicon” Bridge: The U.S. views India as indispensable due to its massive talent pool in semiconductor design and its growing capacity in hardware manufacturing.
• Economic Security: The initiative is designed to reduce “coercive dependencies”—a diplomatic term for relying on China for critical tech components.
• High-Level Diplomacy: Gor emphasized that the relationship is “anchored at the highest levels,” referencing the personal friendship between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.

What is “Pax Silica”?

Pax Silica (Latin for “Silicon Peace”) is a U.S.-led strategic arrangement aimed at securing the global “silicon value chain.”

It is modeled after historical concepts of stability like Pax Romana, but focused on the digital age.
