Total Deaths from Natural Forces: Six thousand four hundred forty-four individuals have succumbed to natural forces such as lightning, heat, and floods, cold-related deaths, and landslides.
Deaths from Lightning: Two thousand five hundred sixty deaths, comprising 39.7% of total deaths from natural forces.
Heat/Sun Stroke: Eight hundred four deaths classified as due to heat.
Cold-related Deaths: Seven hundred thirty-three classified as cold.
Floods, Landslides, and Heavy Rainfalls: Deaths attributable to the four deaths listed above will be the remainder of deaths classified under the forces of nature.
Deaths from Snake Bites: Ten thousand one hundred forty-four deaths, a 0.6% decrease from ten thousand eight in 2022.
Deaths from Animal Attacks: One thousand seven hundred thirty-nine deaths, with deaths from snake bites and insect bites excluded.
Deaths from Insect Bites: Deaths from insect bites occur as well, but with no number given.
Geographical Distribution of Fatalities (Forces of Nature):

Uttar Pradesh: 852 Fatalities
Madhya Pradesh: 789 Fatalities
Bihar: 679 Fatalities
Jharkhand: 401 Fatalities
Maharashtra: 312 Fatalities

States with High Incidents of Deaths from Lightning

Madhya Pradesh: 397 Fatalities
Bihar: 345 Fatalities
Odisha: 294 Fatalities
Uttar Pradesh: 279 Fatalities
Jharkhand: 194 Fatalities

Age Group Affected (Natural Forces):

30-45 Years: 34.8% of victims
45-60 Years: 28.8% of victims

  • Region with Most Death from Heat Stroke: 62% (of 137) nature related deaths were due to heat or sun stroke in Telangana
    Deaths from Landslides: Serious problems identified in hill states (Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya).
    Death in Urban Areas: 602 out of 1,149 deaths were reflective in 53 Urban Accident Cities, with 211 occurring from heat/cold exposure.
    Exposure to Cold: The leading exposure was in Amritsar with five one deaths.
    Overall: Deaths due to “forces of nature” decreased by 5.1%. From 6,651 in 2022 to 6,444 in 2023.
