𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬?

The Union Minister for Panchayati Raj called for Atmanirbhar Panchayats and Viksit Panchayats during the National Workshop on People’s Plan Campaign (PPC) 2026–27.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬:

• PPC 2026–27: Launched on 2 October 2026, it promotes people’s participation in preparing local development plans.
• PM Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana (PM VGSY): A Union Cabinet-approved initiative to strengthen Panchayat governance and support the vision of Viksit Bharat.
• Sixteenth Finance Commission: Recommended grants of ₹4,35,236 crore for Panchayati Raj Institutions for 2026–31.
• MoU with CESL: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj partnered with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) to establish EV charging and battery-swapping stations on Panchayat land.
• eGramSwaraj and Samarth Panchayat Portal: These digital platforms support transparent planning and monitoring of Panchayat activities.

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬:

People’s Plan Campaign (PPC): A nationwide campaign started in 2018 to promote participatory planning at the village level under the theme Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas.

Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP): An annual development plan prepared by Gram Panchayats according to the needs and priorities of local people.

Own Source Revenue (OSR): Income generated by Panchayats through local taxes, fees, user charges and other sources.

Atmanirbhar Panchayats: Panchayats that generate their own revenue and reduce dependence on government grants.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞:

• Strengthens grassroots democracy through people’s participation.
• Promotes financial self-reliance of Panchayats.
• Improves delivery of drinking water and sanitation services.
• Encourages the use of local resources for development.
• Supports the localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
