Context: Website and logo launched by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi (May 2026). Theme: ‘Save Big Cats, Save Humanity, Save Ecosystem’

About the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA):

  • Establishment: Launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2023.
  • Status: An inter-governmental international organization headquartered in India.
  • Objective: Global cooperation for the conservation of seven big cats:
    1. Tiger 2. Lion 3. Leopard 4. Snow Leopard 5. Cheetah 6. Jaguar 7. Puma.
  • Membership: Open to 95 range countries (countries where these cats are found) and interested observer nations/organizations.

The IBCA Summit 2026: Key Details:

  • Date & Venue: June 1st – 2nd, 2026, New Delhi.
  • Significance: First-ever global gathering where world leaders convene exclusively to deliberate on big cat conservation across continents.
  • Participants: Over 400 stakeholders, including Heads of State, scientists, financial institutions, and community representatives.
  • The “Delhi Declaration”: The expected primary outcome; a first-of-its-kind global declaration articulating shared priorities and transboundary cooperation.

  • The Logo: * Core: Features all seven big cat species (Unity/Responsibility).
    • Outer Design: Lotus-inspired, representing the five elements of nature (Panchamahabhutas).
    • Meaning: Reflects harmony, balance, and interconnected ecosystems.
  • The Website: Serves as the official digital identity for global outreach and South-South cooperation.

India’s Leadership in Conservation:

  • Model of Success: India uses the success of Project Tiger, Project Lion, and the Cheetah reintroduction to demonstrate that conservation and development can coexist.
