PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park, Madhya Pradesh:
Why in News? The PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Madhya Pradesh (MP) is a flagship initiative under the PM MITRA Scheme, launched by the Government of India in October 2021. This scheme aims to create integrated textile hubs across seven states to boost the textile sector’s competitiveness, attract investments, and enhance exports. The MP park, located in Dhar district, has been in the news recently (as of September 2025) due to significant milestones in infrastructure development, land acquisition, and investment commitments, positioning it as a key driver for employment and economic growth in the region.
Note: The scheme is designed to integrate the entire textile value chain, from spinning to manufacturing and apparel, under one roof to reduce logistics costs and improve efficiency.
Foundation Stone Laid: In July 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the park, marking the official start of construction and highlighting its strategic importance.
Land Acquisition Progress: As of September 2025, over 1,100 hectares of land has been acquired, with infrastructure work underway, including roads, water supply, and power connections.
Investment Inflows: Recent announcements include ₹5,000 crore in investments from major players like Aditya Birla Group and Raymond, expected to create over 3 lakh jobs in the next few years.
Policy Support: The Madhya Pradesh government has introduced incentives like subsidized land and single-window clearances, drawing attention amid the national push for Atmanirbhar Bharat in textiles.
Export Potential: With global textile demand rising, the park is projected to contribute ₹10,000 crore in exports annually, making headlines in economic forums and state budgets.
Note: These developments align with the national textile policy, emphasizing sustainability and skill development, especially post the Union Budget 2025 allocations.
Objectives:
The primary goals of the PM MITRA Park in MP include:
Value Chain Integration: To establish a seamless ecosystem covering ginning, spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting, and exports.
Employment Generation: Target to create 3 lakh direct and indirect jobs, focusing on women and rural youth through skill training.
Investment Attraction: Aim to garner ₹25,000 crore in investments over the next decade.
Sustainability Focus: Incorporate green technologies, water recycling, and zero-liquid discharge to promote eco-friendly textile production.
Export Boost: Enhance India’s share in global apparel exports from 4% to 10% by 2030, with MP as a key hub.
Note: The park spans 1,486 acres and is developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the central government contributing ₹500 crore per park for common infrastructure.
