Why in News?
The Indian Space Research Organization recently released the first set of data from Chandrayaan-2.
This data was prepared by the Planetary Data System (version 4). The first data set was released through the PRADAN portal.
The PRADAN portal is hosted by ISSDC (Indian Space Science Data Center).
Chandrayaan-2 was launched on July 22, 2019 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.
Under this mission, it was planned to land Vikram at the south pole of the lunar surface.
Unfortunately, Vikram Lander crashed and failed to make the landing.
However, the orbiter has been successfully placed in the moon’s orbit and this orbiter will continue to send various types of information from the moon to ISRO.
Indian Space Science Data Center
The center was established in 2008 by ISRO.
It is also responsible for the acquisition, collection, processing, dissemination of payload data and data related to space missions.
It has supported Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission, Astrosat, Youthsat.
It is located in the Indian Deep Space Network in Bangalore.
The Indian Deep Space Network:
The Indian Deep Space Network is a network of large communications facilities and antennas to support interplanetary missions launched by India.
Similar deep space networks are run by very few countries such as the US, Russia, China, Japan and the European Space Agency.
It also has the ISRO Navigation Center (INC).
INC was launched to assist the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
